Hey friends, it’s been such a long time since I’ve written. Wow, so much to catch you up on!

September 19-26 we left Georgia and traveled to Black Mountain,North Carolina where we worked with Adventures in Relief. It felt so good to get out and work and had such a great time with my team. We were on insulation all week. Most of our jobs were crawl spaces which involved a lot of dirt, tight spaces, and spiders. There were these spiders that were like a mix between a spider and a cricket, so they were very jumpy. Thankfully I’m not super scared of spiders but there was definitely a lot of screaming happening under that house. lol

We absolutely love Derick, he took such good care of us! He always made sure we had everything we needed, bought us coffee, took us to get clothes so we didn’t have to wear clothes full of fiberglass all week, and even got me a birthday cake to celebrate my birthday on our lunch break. And also more importantly  mentoring us spiritually, he brought us so much wisdom!

We got back to training camp Friday around dinner time and started setting out tents back up and settling back into camp. Five minutes after I had everything set up, I was laying in my tent and our leaders came running up to our camp site and yelled for us to clean up our tents and move everything inside the training center a hurricane was coming through and it was going to rain all week. I got out of my tent and could see dark rain clouds coming toward us. Everyone started scrambling to pack their things up before it started raining. It was so chaotic! Everyone making a mad dash down to the training center with there huge backpacks, arms loaded, all our belongings half packed half tied and falling out of our bags. People carrying their entire set up tent down through the pouring rain. It was actually pretty funny. 🙂

This is how we slept for the week. Just one ginormous 70 some people sleepover! 🙂

Debrief week is just a week to take time to intentionally sit down and go over what happened the month before and meet with your squad mentors and team leaders as well as sitting down with your team and addressing any issues that presented themselves over the past month, identifying what we could be doing better as a group and making sure we’re caring well for each other.  This week is also filled with a lot of rest and fun activities for the squad.

Unfortunately, I got sick so I ended up just sleeping and recovering that week.

The last night at training camp they had a commissioning service for the gap year squads. It was such a beautiful evening and just seeing everyone’s excitement in stepping into what God’s calling them into made my heart so happy!

Afterwards they took us on a late night run to waffle house. Such a great way to end our last night in the states!

That’s all for now!

Until next time, Amanda 🙂
